Today we celebrated my Birthday!! well… sort of! My Birthday is in February!! and for my Birthday, my Mum gifted me an experience to have a Champagne Afternoon Tea at Malmaison… it just took me a long time to actually use it…
It was certainly worth the wait. We had a wonderful time.
We were seated at a lovely little booth close to the door. The design of the interior was colourfully dark, and distinctive.
I really liked the dark blue cushy chairs, and the colourful neon light art pieces which uplifted the ambience, giving the room a modern feel.
Our waiter was very attentive, and after explaining the menu to us asked if we had any dietary requirements: a question I always appreciate as I am a vegetarian.
On our menu consisted of: plain scones, clotted cream & strawberry jam, smoked salmon, cucumber & cream cheese bagel (minus the salmon for my vegetarian option), egg mayonnaise sub roll, Louisiana chicken slider (a falafel burger for me), seasonal strawberry cheesecake, salted caramel chocolate brownie, Bakewell tart, double chocolate cupcake, and a seasonal mango and coconut fruit shake with our choice of a variety of speciality teas, and a glass of Mumm NV Champagne.
Mmm and it was all very tasty. I especially loved the Bakewell tart, one of the best I have had, and the coconut and mango fruit shake was a refreshing addition to the dessert tier. My only complaint was that the brownie was very soggy, and had no texture or bite. However, that was a minor downside in an otherwise perfect array of treats.
Fret not! I have not forgotten the tea!! Malmaison is supplied by Taylor’s of Harrogate, which is a favourite of mine. I selected the Earl Grey. It was delightfully light, and what one can only describe as a tea full of elegance, with a sweet scent of Bergamot, and for me finished with a creamy splash of milk. It complimented the Champagne excellently!
